An Expert Workshop on the Implementation of the FAO International Guidelines for the Management of Deep-sea Fisheries in the High Seas: challenges and solutions hosted by the Government of the Republic of Korea will be held  in Busan from May 10 to 12, 2010.

The FAO International Guidelines for the Management of Deep-sea Fisheries in the High Seas (FAO International Guidelines) were adopted in August 2008. Since the adoption of the guidelines many regional fisheries management organizations, states and fishing industry groups have been working to implement the recommendations contained in the guidelines. However, many challenges must be overcome before full implementation of the guidelines can be achieved.

The workshop will focus on discussing challenges based on experiences thus far and on identifying practical solutions for implementing the FAO International Guidelines.
